Kit was made in response to a request by Elisabeth S. Clark to produce a physical material "quotation" from memory for a show. This is a material quotation of still life paintings by Giorgio Morandi, reflecting on his choice of mundane objects which abstracted from their utility and purpose and through the medium of pain and subtly of composition become reflections of sensory experiences. I wondered about Morandi's familiarity with these everyday objects and thought about them sitting around his studio, gathering dust. I thought about them as stock. This is what I became interested in quoting, the existence not of the still life paintings but something more active - the activity of considering, handling and storing the pieces. Morandi’s pursuit became my pursuit as I moved between thought and action, two dimensions and three dimensions arriving at a self-assembly Morandi still life kit..."
